City Government

Mayor Brent Winder

I am a native Utahn and grew up in Holladay. I graduated from Olympus High School but also attended Skyline and Central High. There is a reason for that, but I’d rather not get into it. After high school, I attended the University of Utah, initially majoring in English but then I decided I wanted to pursue my childhood dream of being a marine biologist—not an easy ambition in Utah. While in my senior year in college, I found religion and, after graduation, ended up serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Houston, Texas. Shortly after returning home, I met my wife Monica with whom I have happily spent the last 27 years. I worked as a chemist for a few years and then ended up going to law school. Monica and I have five children and feel privileged to have raised them in this community. We are rooted here and, barring being chased off by an angry mob (and hopefully not related to me being mayor), we plan to spend the remainder of our days on this mountain.

Council Member Ben Hillyard

I have the privilege of being the husband of the most amazing woman (Whitney) and father of three fabulous boys. In 2014, when we found our lot, we knew Woodland Hills would be our forever home. Ever since then we have learned to love our amazing community even more. We count it a great blessing to live in such a beautiful location with the best neighbors anyone could ever wish for.

Over the years I have had the opportunity to work closely with many Fortune 100 and 500 businesses across our nation in many different professional capacities. Primarily my work has focused on cultural transformation, operational excellence, and business systems. While doing this I’ve also owned and operated a number of my own businesses as well.

I am so grateful for this opportunity to serve our great city and I welcome any thoughts, disagreements or constructive ideas from our residents. Thank you all for your support and willingness to volunteer to make our wonderful city even better.

When we moved into Woodland Hills in November of 1999 never in my wildest dreams would I have expected a life like we’ve had here.  The move here introduced me to beautiful scenery, wild animals everywhere and a citizenry like nowhere else.

I’ve enjoyed years of getting to participate in community service that has rewarded me.  As a member of the fire department since 2001 I’ve seen up close the value of volunteers.  I’ve watched people give countless hours of dedication to a great cause.  My experience as Fire Chief for five years gave me a very unique experience watching people give of their talents and time.

Over the past 8 years I’ve watched others make our city thrive from the seat on the City Council.  I love seeing dedicated people working together to make this such a great community.  I’m glad I live here with all of you.

I grew up in Idaho on an 80-acre farm.  We milked cows and farmed the land.  Graduated from College, and worked 42 years at DHI Computing, Provo, UT.  I am now retired.

Assignments:

Citizen Wildlife Protection (CWPP), Public Safety Committee Liasion, and Utah 911 Special Service District.

There’s beauty at every turn. It’s not just the trees and the mountains and the view, it’s also the people. We love living here and being a part of the community. Being elected to serve this great community is truly a gift.. So thank you!!!!
